We’re watching a Glaucus atlanticus (common names include ‘sea swallow’ and ‘blue sea dragon’) feed on the poisonous tentacles of a Porpita porpita, known as a ‘blue button’. At the tips of the blue button’s tentacles are stinging cells called nematocysts, but the venom doesn’t deter the sea swallow. Instead, once the sea swallow eats the blue button’s poison, it stores the venom in the tips of its own feather-like fingers called papillae. Predators should think before biting the sea swallow, as the poison can kill them in seconds. If you come across either of these creatures washed ashore, don’t touch! While the stings aren’t deadly to humans, they can cause skin irritation. You can’t tell from this picture, but these sea creatures are tiny (a few centimetres long) and get around by floating on ocean currents.

In 1968, the four members of the Beatles travelled to this site on the banks of the Ganges River in Northern India to study transcendental meditation. It was a time of prolific songwriting for the group, and 18 of the songs composed here were later recorded on their self-titled album, also known as The White Album. Their time at the ashram was brief and the facility itself was abandoned in the 1990s, left to become derelict and overrun by the encroaching jungle. It nevertheless remained a popular destination for Beatles fans and in 2015, it reopened to the public. Today, visitors will see fan tributes and several murals created by visiting artists.

The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, located in Alsace, transports you back to medieval times. The castle is a constant reminder of its role as a mountain fortress, with elements such as drawbridges, the weapons room, the keep and the cannons. After being abandoned after 1633, it was restored at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Bodo Ebhardt under the patronage of Wilhelm II of Hohenzollern. Today, this restoration, despite some controversies, offers a faithful representation of the medieval history of the castle.
